Dreaming In A Winter Wonderland

| "In the language of this dream, in that palace of delight, we spoke with our whole selves... And my tall Nutcracker Cavalier had eyes only for me, for at least as long as that dream could be." |

As the year draws to a close, I am immensely reminded of how absurd of a blessing it is to be in the place that I am. New York is always beautiful, but the city dolled up in Christmas decor and covered in sheets of snow is another enigmatic wonder altogether.

This year, I made sure to visit the city's trademark "tourist" Christmas sites. If you're a New Yorker or you know someone who is, you'll know many of us make a point of avoiding tourist sites at any cost. This year, I enjoyed the light show at Saks and the brilliance of the Rockefeller Tree alongside old friends. Perhaps better yet, I lived out my high school self's Gossip Girl dream and ventured out to the magnificent Lotte New York Palace.

Of course, I couldn't make such a trip without also dressing the part. My favorite go-to holiday outfit this year has been this fabulous oversized roll neck jumper dress from Asos. I paired it with my over-the-knee faux suede burgundy boots for a festive take on the city-chic look.

Living for years in the same place or working the same job or doing the same thing can become so repetitive that we forget to absorb the artistry around us. Christmas serves as the perfect encouragement for us to truly acknowledge what we have and to push ourselves to appreciate those things in a little more detail. It reminds me of the following words by G.K. Chesterton, one of my favorite excerpts:

“Children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free; therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say, 'Do it again'; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony. But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony. It is possible that God says every morning, 'Do it again' to the sun; and every evening, 'Do it again' to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we. The repetition in Nature may not be a mere reoccurrence; it may be a theatrical encore.”

And as for the city adorned in fresh, falling snow?

I'll let it speak for itself.

"Dreams are strangely familiar places. They are not all make-believe, but only the homely inside of yourself, like the inner lining of your favorite coat, or like the sweet kernel of the hardest nut that only the jaws of my Nutcracker Prince could reveal to me."

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Festive Holiday Gift Guide For Her

"Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love."

If you're feeling like I currently am, it seems as though Christmas snuck up out of nowhere. Amidst the craziness of the last few weeks of the year, it can become difficult to find the perfect last-minute holiday gifts. To save you some time and stress, I've put together a little guide of what gifts I recommend for any lovely lady in your life!

First off - what girl wouldn't love a few extra beauty products? I've included some of my makeup favorites that can be given as individual gifts or added to something more. One of my favorite things to do is fill a mug with little treats such as chocolates, fuzzy socks, beauty products, etc., as it's so simple and thoughtful at the same time. Also, I can't see how anyone could go wrong with a giftset - I've added a bunch of skincare, fragrance, and beauty sets from brands that I definitely recommend! Last but not least, no small gift can beat the classic sophistication of a candle. I love candles, and I think they're the perfect gift for any occasion.

I've linked all of my recommendations below! Happy shopping!

Hope this helps!

Knit & Leather Style Diary With Members Only

"The first fall of snow is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment, then where is it to be found?" -J.B. Priestly

As promised in my previous post, this outfit serves as the second half of my style diaries with Members Only. This look was incredibly delightful to shoot, as it took place on the same early morning of this winter's first snowfall in New York. Regardless of how exhausted many of us feel at this point in the year, the snow always has a special way of reviving the soul and the mind. It has the ability to lace even the gloomiest day with hints of childlike wonder.

This beautiful faux leather asymmetrical jacket generously gifted to me by Members Only was the perfect piece to brave the morning's cold in a sensible and stylish manner. The jacket is in the shade Deep Burgundy and features cozy knit ribbed sleeves to compliment the faux leather.

With the thrill of the special occasion, I had to take my new burgundy over-the-knee boots out for the first time. If you're familiar with my blog, you'll know how I just cannot seem to get over my adoration of a good pair of OTK boots. Because both the black and grey pairs I own fit so well, I tried to find the exact shoe in this color. I ended up buying mine from a boutique on Poshmark (an app you have to try if you want to save money while loving your wardrobe, as I talked about in my recent post on styling on a budget), but I found a few other similar pairs that will be linked at the end of this post.

Last but certainly not least, I stayed super warm and snug in this stunning frilled knit sweater from ASOS. This has been my absolute favorite sweater this season. The material has a very high quality, so it never fails to keep me extremely cozy while out in the cold. Beyond that, the frill detail is so charming and perfectly chic. I paired it with some classic gold hoop earrings and a simple faux suede zip-front skirt from Forever 21

Loving the indescribable city in which I get to live is something I will never get tired of doing. The magic of the first snowfall only makes it that much easier. It's a gentle yet wondrous reminder from nature that we cannot ever forget to love the world we have been given. To quote Oscar Wilde, "it takes a great deal of courage to see the world in all its tainted glory, and still to love it."

Peplum Leather Style Diary With Members Only

"We built this city on rock and roll." -Starship

Recently, I had the incredible privilege of working with Members Only to infuse my personal blogging style into their iconic look. Because Members Only is exceedingly well known for their prominence in the fashion trends of the 80's, this opportunity seemed to fit perfectly with me. (If you've been reading my blog lately, you'll know my current obsessions are all within the realm of the 80's era, stemming from my love for Stranger Things and leading to my subsequent infatuation with Stephen King, conspiracy theories, *all* the 80's playlists, etc. If you haven't had a chance to see the post I wrote on Stranger Things, you can check it out here!)

It makes sense, then, that I was excited to style for a brand so famous for their 80's presence (not to mention, one that was actually featured in Stranger Things!). Members Only generously gifted me this gorgeous peplum jacket for styling purposes, and I have to say in complete honesty that I absolutely adore it. Because it is 100% leather, it fits so comfortably and feels soft to the touch. The color is a rich berry shade, in my opinion the perfect compromise between a vibrant tone and the presentation of a beautiful, feminine appearance.

To continue with the 80's feel as well as incorporate my personal style into the look, I paired the jacket with this plaid Heritage skirt from Topshop (you may have spotted it in my post on Stranger Things), a white cropped t-shirt from Brandy Melville, and my faux suede booties from Aerosoles. Mixed with the neon lights of a buzzing city in the outset of a dimming afternoon, this outfit made for the perfect 80's-infused prep style.

You can find the jacket here and the rest of the outfit linked below. Be on the lookout for a second Style Diary with Members Only soon!
